The Great Big Push 12th June 2016
What a Sunday we all had!
Adults with cerebral palsy from Cerebral Palsy Midland’s (CPM), carers, staff, friends, family and the local community came together marching 10k around Cannon Hill Park as part of their Great Big Push sponsored walk.
The Lord Mayor waved on his passing vintage bus and his procession of flag bearers and Dhol Drummers passed The Bandstand where CPM were set up at Cannon Hill Park. Our team of walkers and pushers followed and started our walk as the procession passed and everyone in high spirits. Whilst the gloomy rain may have deterred some of our supporters, we had 85 people in attendance and those that came really enjoyed themselves and had a great time. This event was such a success that we hope to make this an annual fundraiser helping us raise awareness for adults with cerebral palsy and other related disabilities. The busy park meant we had a golden opportunity to tell people about the great work we do here at CPM!
The Great Big Push was certainly a challenge for some of our adults, we encouraged everyone who takes part to achieve their personal best distance. Many of our walkers, wheelers and pushers completed five laps, a total of 10km on the day, we were so proud.
We have a lot of people to thank, all those that took part and all those that volunteered. Ahead of the event we had support from Unite Representatives at Cadbury’s, Wadsworth Solicitors, Crusty Cottage, Milk and More, Swallow Wholesale Drinks Solutions and The Greggs Foundation. CPM Development Officer Sarah Lilly said “We are truly grateful to all those who helped us get this fundraiser off the ground, we were able to give our finishers bright coloured certificates, cakes, drinks and chocolate to thank them for their outstanding efforts. It meant a great deal to our service users with cerebral palsy, their family and friends. It will truly be unforgettable.”
So far we have received over £1000 in sponsorship and that figure is still continuing to grow as we wait for further collections and sponsorship to be handed in.
