Wheelcahir Dance Workshop Tuesday 21st February 2017

Helen Mason who performed in last years ‘A New Light’ with us will be leading a Wheelchair Dance workshop here at Cerebral Palsy Midlands Tuesday 21st February between 1-3pm.

Helen has set up Birmingham's first official wheelchair dance class and Free wheelin Dance Group. She recently qualified as a level 2 wheelchair dance instructor with the Wheelchair Dance Sport Association (you may have seen them on the Christmas strictly come dancing episode).

The regular wheelchair dance classes are held on Fridays between 6.30pm till 7.30pm at Saint Gabriel's church hall in Weoley Castle. The class costs £5 and is open to mainly wheelchair users but also friends and carers too and anyone else who would like to give it a go. The lesson offers people a chance to exercise, try a new skill and meet new people. The dance sequences develop co-ordination, strength, stamina and flexibility.

The classes are suitable for all mobility levels and can be accessed by those who use manual and power assisted wheel chairs.

The class covers a variety of styles from street, waltz, samba to quickstep. Its a great way to keep fit whilst having fun with others.

Currently there are no other wheel chair dance classes in Birmingham from this association and this is the first of its kind. The aim is for everyone to have an opportunity to learn and enjoy dance.
